Nintendo inflamed fans with their most recent trailer of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2. Fan speculation became rampant when they saw the shot of Link falling down the sky towards some floating islands. Many noticed how similar looking the game was compared to Skyward Sword.

Released in 2011, the motion control heavy Skyward Sword was, and still is, much maligned. The hand holding tutorials and over reliance on motion gestures were heavily criticized. While praising it for the painterly art style, touching origin story, and new upgrading system. Fans and critics were split on if the game was too formulaic and stuck in it’s ways or added enough to push the series forward.

However divisive the game was it laid the groundwork for it’s successor, the first Breath of the Wild. With near universal praise, some would even crown it as the greatest game of all time. With all the love that game gets, fans should know how much Breath of the Wild owes to Skyward Sword.
