Background
Created by Masaoki Shindo, RuriDragon (ルリドラゴン) runs in Weekly Shonen Jump. Getting it’s first start in June of this year. It proved quite popular at home and abroad out the gate. With views of the first two chapters toppling 1 million views on Shonen Jump Japanese App. The series first appeared as a one shot in 2020. The author has put out a couple of one shots by the names of Twin Peach, Sky Claw, Count Over, and Joreishi Rentarou no Yakusoku. RuriDragon was their first to become a series.
The Story
RuriDragon is simply about a teenage girl growing up. In Ruri’s case this means growing dragon horns to start. Breathing fire comes next and so does the speculation of what else next. It is part slice of life, coming of age, and supernatural fantasy. The series has been very lowkey and relaxed. This isn’t body horror nor is Ruri fighting Dragons to become the best in the world.
