How Unpacking Tells a Story Through Our Possessions and the Rooms They Inhabit
Our possessions tell a story. From our personal tastes to the type of personality we have to even our hopes and dreams. Unpacking truly believes in this adage and has based their entire game’s narrative on it. This tiny little indie about the mundane and troublesome act of unpacking our things into new rooms and homes manages to combine its gameplay and storytelling beautifully. Giving weight to the simple task of finding where to put your artwork into a life story that spans decades.
Background
Coming out late in 2021 Unpacking is a plain game with a very mundane pitch. You simply unpack an unseen characters belongs into various living spaces. From sweatpants, to tooth brushes, to their favorite stuffed animal. It is up to you the player to find out where to put all their belongings. You can be as neat and tidy as you want with a carefully thought out system. Or you can be a messy slob and put anything down wherever as long as the game okays it. Available on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, I would highly recommend playing this with a keyboard and mouse.
