Recently the volleyball manga series Haikyu!! announced its return to the screen after about two years since the end of it’s fourth season. What should have been a joyous occasion for fans became a wellspring of worry and disappointment. Mainly due to the fact that the announcement wasn’t for a new season but a two part film finale. Read on to see what’s got fans in such a tizzy. Spoilers into the rest of the series ahead, read with caution!

So Much Left to Adapt

The anime series left off after the end of the Karasuno versus Inarizaki match at the Spring High National Tournament. This leaves about 110 chapters left in the manga to adapt. A staggering amount of story left and the biggest source of worry for fans in a pair of films. Three matches and a couple of smaller ones littered throughout. They need to adapt the rest of the Spring High National Tournament Arc, the Brazil Arc, and the Final Arc. That is a lot of story left for just two films. The rest of the tournament especially seems better for a series than a film. Can you stuff it all in two movies worth of runtime? Sure but there is the fear that this will all condense and shorten story arcs that would do better in a longer format.
