Boruto a follow up to the wildly popular ninja series Naruto lacks much of the heart and character compared to it’s predecessor. No more evident than in it’s lack luster fight scenes. For many Shonen Battle series fighting scenes are their bread and butter, their show pieces. Naruto was popularized in part thanks to its frenetic action, inventive ninjutsu powers, and deceptive combat that was worthy of a ninja series. Boruto lacks most of these traits even skipping some Shonen Battle series mainstays.

Not in Fighting Form

Let’s take a look at an average fight in Boruto. Here Code is attacking Daemon with a straight forward attack. Daemon pulls the classic switch to their back and hammers him with a basic punch then stomp. Only for Code to pull another back switch and tries to claw him again only for Daemon to swiftly kick him in the head. Basic attacks, few tactics, straight forward and little use of inventive ninjutsu. Most Boruto fights are this way now. Straight forward fights with simple paneling and head on action that fights more like Dragon Ball but without it’s quality.
